On April 17th, Partners of the Americas celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Marso Foundation in Mexico City. The event brought together special guests, allies, and key members to honor six decades of impactful work across the Americas.
John McPhail, President and CEO of Partners of the Americas, started the evening with a heartfelt welcome, expressing gratitude to attendees, the board, and his wife. He reflected on the organization’s resilience through the pandemic and emphasized that Partners' mission to connect, serve, and change lives remains unchanged. He thanked the Partners team in Mexico for organizing the event, proclaiming, “Once a partner, always a partner!”
Pablo Solorio, the Principal Labor Attaché of the U.S. Embassy, followed. He shared warm greetings from Ken Salazar and recounted the inspiration behind Partners, rooted in John F. Kennedy’s vision. He praised Partners' contributions to education, labor, and agriculture, highlighting key projects in Mexico. Solorio reaffirmed the U.S. government's commitment to collaboration with Partners.
Alfredo Domínguez, Director General of the Federal Center for Labor Conciliation and Registration, emphasized the significance of the 60th anniversary and lauded Partners' efforts in union democracy and labor rights. He encouraged workers' active participation and praised Partners for its work connecting communities with government, academia, and civil society.
Ashish Abraham, outgoing Board Chair, concluded with reflections on Partners' history, quoting John F. Kennedy to underscore the lasting relevance of the organization’s founding idea. He celebrated the successful partnerships and dedicated work of the Partners team and extended thanks on behalf of the board.
